Underground Forest offers a safe and proven method to remove CO2 permanently by storing it in anoxic layers of peat and clay - generating carbon credits guaranteed for 1000+ years of carbon removal. We do this simply by using wood in construction foundations - which can be used in sustainable real-estate projects, farming, and in peatland restoration sites. With an initial funding round completed as well as basic operations in place, Underground Forest is positioned to be European market leader in permanent carbon dioxide removals and we’re on the lookout for a General Manager/Co-Founder!

Role Summary

As General Manager/Co-Founder, you will be responsible for executing the company’s vision, overseeing day-to-day operations, and laying the groundwork for long-term growth. You’ll play a pivotal role in team building, strategic planning, partnerships, and revenue generation. You must be comfortable wearing multiple hats in a fast-paced, ambiguous environment typical of early-stage startups. This General Manager job has a perspective of overtime becoming the CEO.

Key Responsibilities
  • Build, manage, and inspire a cross-functional team across operations, sales, carbon credit certification, construction partnerships, and technology.
  • Instill significant growth of the company while maintaining strong alignment with the company’s mission and values.
  • 2. Strategic Growth Develop and execute strategies for scaling operations, expanding project pipelines, and establishing key industry partnerships (developers, architects, corporates, carbon registries). Identify new revenue opportunities within carbon markets and sustainable construction.
  • 3. Carbon Credit Operations Oversee carbon credit methodologies and ensure compliance with international standards. Collaborate with sustainability and certification experts to quantify and monetize carbon sequestration through wood use.
  • 4. Business Development & Partnerships Cultivate and maintain strategic partnerships with key stakeholders including wood suppliers, construction firms, ESG investors, and government agencies. Manage budgeting, financial forecasting, and resource allocation aligned with growth goals. Build a clear unit economics model linking timber usage, construction outputs, and carbon credit revenue.
    • Ideal Candidate Profile

    Required Experience

  • 5+ years in a leadership or general management role within a startup or high-growth company
  • Strong understanding & willingness to play a key role in the voluntary or compliance carbon credit market and carbon accounting
  • Proven success in building and scaling teams from scratch
  • Experience with keeping financial oversights (capital raising or investor relations
