Senior database engineer

Backbase is the leading AI-powered banking platform used by financial institutions worldwide to create seamless digital experiences. As a Database Engineer in the Retail department, you will optimize the core data infrastructure that powers these experiences for millions of users, contributing to our mission of reinventing banking. This role is based in Amsterdam, Netherlands, with hybrid work expectations (in-office at least twice per week).

• Explain complex findings to a variety of technical audiences.
  
• Test Proof-of-Concept (PoC) products to ensure they achieve ambitious goals.
  
• Ensure overall software quality, scalability, and performance.
  
• Collaborate with the cloud solutions team on MVP development and launch.
  
• Act as a consultant to internal development teams and educate them on performance.

• Solid experience with large (100TB+), highly available, high-transaction databases, with MSSQL as a must-have (Oracle or MySQL is a plus).
  
• Experience working with Cloud databases, either AWS or Azure.
  
• Deep knowledge of database fundamentals and architectures, plus SQL code performance review and optimization.
  
• Familiarity with standard edition tools for performance measurement, analysis, and optimization.
  
• Experience developing tools and methodologies for isolating performance issues.
  
• Ability to coordinate, plan, and manage complex technical solutions.
  
• Excellent communication skills, able to explain complex subjects to a wide audience with different expertise levels.
  
• Experience with ML/LLM/AI concepts and their impact on database performance and data architecture in high-transaction environments.
  
• You must be located within commuting distance to the Amsterdam office (hybrid work, at least twice per week).
