Overview

Bunge is seeking a proactive and skilled Legal Counsel to join our global trade legal team, supporting the Agribusiness Value Chains worldwide. The role involves navigating complex global trade legal issues and contributing to our business's strategic success as a key legal partner.

Your Responsibilities
  • Provide general and strategic legal counsel and support on all legal matters involving global trade across our Agribusiness Value Chains, proactively identifying and addressing legal risks and issues.
  • Act as an integral part of the global trade legal team, offering broader support to the European regional team.
  • Draft, review, and negotiate various commercial documents including sale and purchase contracts, letters of indemnity, guarantees, novations, assignments, storage, and warehousing agreements relevant to the trading business.
  • Manage and advise on commercial disputes, litigation, and arbitrations, both in-house and with external counsel, including monitoring legal fees and reserves.
  • Partner closely with global Agribusiness Value Chains, global functions, and regional/global legal departments to ensure a unified approach to global trade legal issues, gaining a deep understanding of business strategies, challenges, and opportunities.
  • Monitor regulatory developments affecting global trade and agribusiness, and advise on compliance matters (including counterparty due diligence, credit, and risk management) in conjunction with relevant functions.
  • Develop and deliver internal training sessions on relevant global trade legal topics.
  • Support the use of legal technology tools (e.g., Docusign, Tracker) and contribute to efficient legal operations.
  • Provide management with required reports on litigation, projects, and costs.
  • Develop, oversee, and manage relationships with external law firms, including cost control and budgeting.
Your Profile
  • UK qualified solicitor or comparable qualification with English and common law experience may be considered.
  • At least 5 years PQE (Post-Qualification Experience).
  • Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in an international law firm and/or as in-house counsel, dedicated to commodities trading (GAFTA, FOSFA, SAL, RSA etc) and/or shipping.
  • Excellent skills in drafting, reviewing, and negotiating complex legal agreements and contracts.
  • Deep understanding of commercial law, trade law, and regulatory issues pertinent to global trade and agribusiness.
  • Strong communication skills in English (both oral and written) with the ability to effectively convey complex legal concepts; additional languages are a plus.
  • Analytical strength, excellent research, and problem-solving skills, with a pragmatic approach.
  • Team-oriented personality with the ability to work cooperatively and collaboratively, build relationships, prioritize effectively, and demonstrate business acumen.
