They are looking for a Staff Machine Learning Engineer to join their Basemaps team in their Amsterdam tech office. The engineer will play a crucial role in developing top-tier map offerings that power Uber's business. The role involves leading the effort of map curation and enrichment through inference and models, improving precision, introducing new road network features, and identifying map issues that impact efficiency and road safety.
In this role you can expect to have the responsibilities:

- Translate business level metrics to an engineering/science problem
- Shape the MLE role for the Maps AMS team
- Be responsible for the End to End of the product - ML model pipeline & backend system design, implementation, AB testing, and rollout.
- Build new services to increase map issue resolution rate, curate map features, and improve overall coverage
- Collaborate in a team environment across all functions, including engineers, product managers, data scientists, and operations
This role requires you to have:
- PhD or equivalent in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics or related field
- 8 years of full-time Software Engineering work experience, including 5 years of technical software engineering experience
- Training using data structures and algorithms
- Knowledge of modern machine learning algorithms
- Proficiency in one of the following programming languages: Java, Go, Python
- Experience with Machine Learning Software such as Tensorflow/Pytorch, Caffe, Scikit-Learn, or Spark MLLib
- Sound understanding of computer architecture and CS fundamentals
- Experience with MapReduce, Spark, and Hive on large datasets
- Collaborative mindset and ability to work well in a team

- Experience in areas such as machine learning, search, ranking, recommendation systems, pattern recognition, data mining, or artificial intelligence
