Join Qualcomm’s AI Research team in Amsterdam and design and implement highly optimized machine learning solutions for generative AI, in collaboration with a multi-disciplinary team of researchers and engineers.

What You Will Do

As Staff Machine Learning Engineer at Qualcomm AI Research, you work directly with ML research teams to implement algorithms, conduct experiments, develop research-oriented software tools, as well as work together with both research and product teams to bring AI models to embedded devices. Your role will involve rapid prototyping, large-scale experimentation and fast iteration, always emphasizing code quality, maintainability, and efficiency. You will also contribute to comprehensive system design and engineering efforts, facilitating the transition of research prototypes toward commercial deployment.

Candidates should have strong experience with the Python and PyTorch tech stack and a solid understanding of model quantization techniques. Proficiency in C++ and Android development and hands-on experience working with embedded platforms is a big plus. Successful applicants will be creative, enthusiastic innovators who are equally comfortable with researching new technologies and implementing code for robust prototypes.

Responsibilities
  • Implement algorithms and conduct experiments in collaboration with ML research teams.
  • Develop research-oriented software tools and contribute to system design and engineering efforts.
  • Prototype rapidly and perform large-scale experiments with a focus on code quality and efficiency.
  • Collaborate with research and product teams to bring AI models to embedded devices.
Requirements
  • Excellent Python programming skills demonstrated through relevant industry or academic experience
  • Proven experience with machine learning and frameworks such as PyTorch; hands-on experience training deep neural networks and improving training pipelines
  • Experience with embedded computing and/or the Android platform; solid understanding of C++
  • Background in software development, including testing, debugging, and test-driven development
  • Ability to work in a multi-site software organization
Preferred Qualifications
  • Strong software design, development, and debugging skills with a foundation in AI and ML techniques
  • Hands-on experience evaluating and optimizing Generative AI workflows for accuracy and performance
  • Experience optimizing algebraic operations in algorithms for HW cores
  • Familiarity with ML model optimization frameworks and techniques such as quantization and pruning
  • Familiarity with containerization tools, test frameworks, static analysis tools, and CI infrastructure
Education Requirements
  • PhD or MS in computer science, electrical engineering, robotics, or related field, or a B.S. with several years of related experience

Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Systems, or related field and 4+ years of relevant experience, or
  • Master’s degree and 3+ years of relevant experience, or
  • PhD and 2+ years of relevant experience
