Engineering Manager

Location: Geleen, Netherlands (site-based with some flexibility)

Contract: Permanent

Overview

We are seeking an experienced Engineering Manager to lead a multi-disciplinary engineering team within a large-scale chemical manufacturing environment. This role is critical in ensuring safe, reliable, and profitable plant operations while safeguarding long-term asset integrity and reliability.

The Engineering Manager will oversee a team of engineers across disciplines including mechanical, integrity, reliability, electrical, rotating equipment, systems, and materials/corrosion. The position combines strategic leadership with hands-on oversight of day-to-day scoping for maintenance, turnarounds, and project start-ups, ensuring engineering excellence and continuous improvement across all areas.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide functional leadership across engineering, maintenance, reliability, and integrity disciplines.
  • Ensure asset integrity and long-term reliability through structured inspection, maintenance, and reliability programs.
  • Oversee the planning and technical scope development of maintenance, turnarounds, and capital projects.
  • Manage and allocate engineering resources effectively across plant operations, projects, and TA events.
  • Drive continuous improvement through reliability programs, bad actor elimination, lifetime extension planning, and equipment assurance.
  • Act as skill pool lead for hard engineering disciplines, ensuring professional quality, mentoring, and succession planning.
  • Collaborate with global reliability and asset integrity functions to align with corporate standards.
  • Support SHE initiatives, ensuring compliance in a high-hazard chemical manufacturing environment.
  • Champion innovation and introduction of relevant technologies.
  • Serve as a key member of the manufacturing leadership team, reporting directly to the Manufacturing Director.

Candidate Profile

  • Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Process Engineering, or related discipline.
  • 10+ years of experience in the (petro)chemical industry, with proven leadership and managerial experience.
  • Strong background in asset integrity, reliability, and maintenance management.
  • Experience with turnarounds, maintenance strategy, and project execution in a chemical/process environment.
  • Familiarity with SHE and process safety requirements in high-hazard industries.
  • Excellent communication skills; able to influence across operations, maintenance, and engineering functions.
  • Fluent in English; Dutch is an advantage but not essential.
  • Flexible mindset — able to manage the demands of a 24/7 plant environment while maintaining a strong leadership presence.

What’s on Offer

  • Competitive salary, bonus scheme, and car allowance.
  • Comprehensive benefits package.
  • Hybrid flexibility: primarily site-based with option for one day remote.
  • Opportunity to play a pivotal leadership role, working alongside the current Engineering Manager ahead of his planned retirement, ensuring a smooth handover and continuity of excellence.
  • Long-term career growth in a leading international chemical manufacturing group.
